Well, its hard to believe that our babies are now 5 weeks old!  No longer the little yellow chick, but small white chickens!  They should have weighed 310 - 360 grams when I weighed them yesterday, but many of them were up to 425gms!  There are still a few that are a bit smaller, but they look healthy enough, so I'm not overly worried about them. Eh bien, son mal à croire que nos bébés sont Now! 5 semaines! N'est plus le petit poussin jaune, mais les petits poulets blancs! Ils devraient avoir pesé 310 - 360 grammes lorsque j'ai pesé hier, mais beaucoup d'entre eux ont été jusqu'à 425gms! Il reste encore quelques-uns qui sont un peu petits, mais ils ressemblent assez bonne santé, donc je ne suis pas trop inquiet à leur sujet.

They try to fly out of the sheds now when I open the door, manage to catch them all so far though! Ils essaient de voler des hangars maintenant lorsque j'ouvre la porte, parviennent à les capturer tous pour autant si!

I mentioned in an earlier post that the hardboard surround is 2ft from the ground, well in the bigger brooder shed, hubby had blocked in the corners so none could fall down the back, but the chicks use them for roosting on.  I regularly find about a dozen or so sitting up there when I open the door! J'ai mentionné dans un précédent post que le dur est 2ft surround à partir du sol, et dans le plus grand hangar couveuse, mari avait bloqué dans les coins si aucune ne pourrait tomber le dos, mais les poussins pour les utiliser sur roosting. Je trouve régulièrement sur une dizaine d'assis là-haut lorsque j'ai ouvert la porte!

I forgot to mention in a previous post that I lost another 4 chicks.  My fault this time, and I'm embarrassed to mention it, but need to in case anyone else does the same thing.  I've been turning their heat off during the day for 2 weeks now, as its been very mild here, but this particular night we had a sudden cold snap, and I didn't realise it.  When I went out at 7.30pm to feed and water them.  I found them all at one end of the shed piled 4 high trying to keep warm, and underneath 4 dead ones!  They got crushed with the weight of all the others! J'ai oublié de mentionner dans un précédent post que j'ai perdu 4 autres poussins. Ma faute cette fois-ci, et je suis gêné de le mentionner, mais doivent au cas où quelqu'un d'autre fait la même chose. J'ai été tourner leur chaleur au cours de le jour pendant 2 semaines maintenant, comme son très doux ici, mais cette nuit nous avons eu un coup de froid instantané, et je n'ai pas la réaliser. Quand je suis allé sur 7.30pm à de la nourriture et l'eau. Je les trouve tous les à une extrémité de l'abri empilés 4 Haute essayant de garder au chaud, et sous les 4 morts! Ils se sont écrasés avec le poids de tous les autres!

When hubby came home, I was still very upset, and all I wanted was a cuddle to make me feel a little better, but as he is generally unemotional where animals are concerned, he just turned away and said oh don't start that.  Which of course made me feel even worse!!!!!   MEN!!!!! Quand mari rentra à la maison, j'étais encore très déçu, et tout ce que je voulais était un câlin pour me faire sentir un peu mieux, mais comme il est généralement unemotional où les animaux sont concernés, il vient de loin et se dit oh ne démarrent pas que. Qui, bien sûr, m'a fait sentir encore pire !!!!! HOMMES !!!!!

Then on Wednesday I thought I had lost yet another!!!  I'd started to cook dinner, but the last 2 onions I had in the kitchen were going a bit soft, so I went out to the greenhouse which is my temporary shed to get some more, when I heard a distress call.  I couldn't tell which shed it was coming from, so I stood in the middle of both of them. Puis, le mercredi je pensais que j'avais perdu un autre encore! Je commencé à faire cuire le dîner, mais les 2 derniers, j'ai eu les oignons dans la cuisine allaient un peu mou, je suis allé à l'effet de serre qui est mon abri temporaire à obtenir un peu plus, quand j'ai entendu un appel de détresse. Je ne pouvais pas dire à qui il a été remise en provenance, si je me suis levé au milieu de deux d'entre eux. Silence……  Looked in the small shed, everything normal.  Looked in the larger shed and all the chicks were huddled at one end.  I couldn't think why, then I looked down, and one chick had jumped up onto the water bell, which has a metal hanging handle on top, but isn't hanging up, and she'd slipped and caught her foot in the handle and was dangling down very still. Silence ... ... Vu dans le petit hangar, tout normal. Regardé dans le plus grand hangar et tous les poussins ont été regroupés à une extrémité. Je ne pouvais pas penser pourquoi, alors j'ai regardé vers le bas, et un poussin avait grimpé jusqu'à l'eau sur la cloche, qui a un manche de métal suspendues au-dessus, mais n'est pas raccrocher, et elle a glissé et a pris son pied dans le manche et a été très dangling encore.

I thought she was dead, and thought oh no, not another one!  Anyway, when I picked her up and released her foot, she came to and just sat there looking at me.  So I put her down and she just sat, dazed, so I left her for a little while and went and cut my onions up, when I came back outside, she was up and away with the others.     PHEW, what a relief!!!! Je pensais qu'elle était morte, et de la pensée oh non, pas un autre! Quoi qu'il en soit, lorsque j'ai pris sa place et de sortir son pied, elle est venue à juste assis et il me regarder. J'ai donc mis sa et elle a juste assis, hébété, j'ai donc quitté son un peu de temps, et est allé et ma coupe des oignons, quand je suis revenu en dehors, elle a été de loin et avec les autres. Ouf, quel soulagement!!

Well, we've re-homed all the ex batts now, and hubby and I took the end off the big hen house and he's started to do the concrete for the extension.  I cleaned it all out, and we found some red mite in there!  Something I've never had before, but the house is under some conifers, plus we've had more pigeons this year, and the swallows came back, so could have been any of them. Eh bien, nous avons ré-hébergé tous les ex batts maintenant, et petit mari et j'ai pris la fin sur le grand poulailler et il a commencé à faire de concret pour l'extension. Je nettoyé tous, et nous avons trouvé certains acarien rouge en là! quelque chose que je n'ai jamais eu avant, mais la maison est sous certains conifères, plus nous avons eu plus de pigeons de cette année, et les hirondelles sont revenus, de sorte aurait pu être l'un d'entre eux.

So I sprayed the whole house out with Jeyes, then the next day hubby hosed it out with the pressure washer, and we sprayed it with Jeyes again and let it dry, and now I'm painting it with creosote subs to try to keep them out.  I've never seen them before, and didn't realise how tiny they are, and how they get into such TINY cracks!!!!!  I've started dusting the new POL's with mite powder and will make sure there's plenty in the house, nest boxes and dust bath when the new girls go in there next week. J'ai donc pulvérisé toute la maison avec Jeyes, puis le lendemain il hosed mari avec la laveuse à pression, et il nous pulvérisé avec Jeyes de nouveau et laisser sécher, et maintenant je suis avec la peinture sous la créosote pour essayer de les garder . Je ne l'avez jamais vu avant, et ne pas comprendre à quel point ils sont minuscules, et la façon dont ils obtenir dans de telles fissures TINY !!!!! J'ai commencé à dépoussiérer le nouveau POL avec la poudre d'acariens et assurez-vous que il ya beaucoup dans la maison, nichoirs et bain de poussière lorsque la nouvelle se filles là la semaine prochaine.

I suppose you can use it on the chicks.  There's nothing to say otherwise on the container. Je suppose que vous pouvez l'utiliser sur les poussins. Il n'y a rien à dire sinon sur le récipient.

Well, apart from that, not much else has happened this week so I'll log off for now.  More soon!!!!!! Eh bien, en dehors de cela, pas grand chose d'autre s'est passé cette semaine donc je vais fermer la session pour le moment. Plus vite !!!!!!
