Well, would you believe the chicks are actually 4 weeks old now!  The transformation is remarkable.  They are no longer chicks, but little chickens.  My friend came over to see them on Thursday.  “Oh,” she said “I was expecting to see little yellow things!”  “They were for about 2 days” said hubby, “but then they started to get their little white wings.”  I read in an old smallholder magazine that once past the 4 week stage, they don’t call them chicks now, they are growers, or pullets, so I don’t have any little yellow fluffy chicks anymore!  Well, not until this lot are grown and sold (hopefully!!) Eh bien, le croiriez-vous les poussins sont en fait 4 semaines maintenant! La transformation est remarquable. Ils ne sont plus des poussins, mais peu de poulets. Mon ami est venu les voir jeudi. "Oh", at-elle dit: "Je m'attendais à voir les choses peu jaune! "" Ils étaient environ 2 jours "dit mari", mais ensuite ils ont commencé à faire leur petit ailes blanches. "Je l'ai lu dans un vieux magazine que les petits, une fois passé les 4 semaines stade, ils ne remettent pas les poussins, ils sont les producteurs, ou les poulettes, si je n'ai pas de petit jaune poussins duveteux plus! Eh bien, pas beaucoup jusqu'à ce que ce sont cultivés et vendus (nous l'espérons!)

My brother phoned me this morning to say there was a 10×8 shed on freecycle, so I’ve emailed the lady to see if she will let us have it.  Hubby has started to extend the big henhouse by another 16ft, but he hurt his leg last week and has to keep stopping for a rest.  So the shed will be 34ft x 6ft, but still won’t be big enough for the 300 when they are bigger.  Here’s hoping that lady lets me have her shed.  Then they may just be big enough!  Especially as I want to put 12 of them in with my new POL’s so I’ll have 24 layers. Mon frère m'a téléphoné ce matin pour dire qu'il y était de 10 × 8 hangar sur Freecycle, J'ai donc envoyé le courrier dame pour voir si elle nous permettra de le faire. Hubby a commencé à étendre le grand poulailler par un autre 16ft, mais il a mal sa jambe la semaine dernière et a garder à l'arrêt pour un repos. Ainsi, la remise sera 34ft x 6ft, mais ne sera pas assez grand pour les 300 quand ils sont plus grands. Voici en espérant que dame me permet de l'avoir remise. Ensuite, ils ont juste mai être assez grand! D'autant plus que je tiens à mettre 12 d'entre eux avec mon nouveau POL si je vais disposer de 24 couches.

When I put the wardrobe in the shed to use as another brooder, I’d put some ground cover stuff (terram) down to put their shavings on to help keep them warm, and I made sure that there were no frayed edges for the chicks to get hold of.  Well, just shows you what they get up to.  I went out to see them yesterday, and one was walking around with a long strand of terram hanging out of its mouth.  I tried to get hold of it to pull it out, but the chick moved away.  I finally caught the strand and gently pulled it, but the chick had a tight hold on it and wouldn’t let go.  So I kept pulling gently, and the strand started to come out of its mouth, but to my horror, the chick had swallowed about a foot of this strand, its a wonder she didn’t die!  silly chick.  I don’t know where it came from, as I can’t see any loose bits around on the floor of the brooder! Quand j'ai mis le garde-robe dans le hangar pour l'utiliser comme une autre couveuse, j'avais mis des trucs couvre-sol (terre) à mettre sur leurs copeaux pour aider à garder au chaud, et j'ai fait en sorte qu'il n'y avait pas de bords effilochés pour les poussins à trouver. Eh bien, vous montre ce qu'ils ont à se lever. je suis sorti pour les voir hier, et une a été la marche avec un long brin de terre à la pendaison de sa bouche. j'ai essayé d'obtenir de celle-ci à tirer il, mais le poussin se sont éloignés. J'ai finalement pris le volet et tire doucement, mais le poussin a une emprise sur serré et il ne serait pas laisser aller. Alors, j'ai continué de tirer doucement, et le volet commencé à sortir de son bouche, mais à mon horreur, le poussin a avalé au sujet d'un pied de ce volet, une merveille sa elle ne sont pas morts! stupide poussin. Je ne sais pas d'où il vient, comme je ne peux pas voir perdre tout autour de bits sur le plancher de la couveuse!

I’m so glad we got the larger drinkers, as now I can hang them up, the water stays a bit cleaner, instead of being choked up with shavings and chick poo! Je suis heureux que nous avons eu les plus grands buveurs, que maintenant je peux accrocher en place, l'eau reste un peu plus propre, au lieu d'être étouffée avec copeaux et poussin poo!

I weighed some of them on Friday, their 4 week birthday, and apart from a couple which are slightly smaller, most of them weighed between 250 and 350 gms.  The ideal is 275 to 310, so they are doing fine.  Still don’t stop eating though!  They’ve got through 100kgs of chick crumbs since last Saturday! Je pesais certains d'entre eux le vendredi, les 4 semaines anniversaire, et à l'exception d'un couple qui sont légèrement plus petits, la plupart d'entre eux pesait entre 250 et 350 grammes. L'idéal est de 275 à 310, de sorte qu'ils font bien. Ne sont toujours pas arrêter de manger si! ils ont par 100kgs de poussin miettes depuis samedi dernier!

I should be able to start putting them on growers pellets now, but there are still several bags of chick crumb left, so I think I will wait until next week, then start to mix the 2 feeds together to wean them over gradually. Je devrais être en mesure de commencer à les mettre sur les producteurs de boulettes maintenant, mais il reste encore plusieurs sacs de poussin miette à gauche, donc je pense que je vais attendre la semaine prochaine, puis commencer à mélanger les 2 flux en même temps à les sevrer progressivement.
