Dear Annie
We usually buy our day old chicks at the Hatchery in Eyenear peterborough which I see from your blog that you do (or did). I'm having trouble contacting them by phone. Do you know if they are still in busines? They were Joice and Hill and i wonder if they have been taken over/closed.
Best wishes
Joanna
Well when we got our last lot of chicks from J&H, they didn't mention they may be closing! Here is the number I use. Is it the same one you have?
01733 221833 Sometimes if Kate is busy, they take a long time to answer. Maybe they all went on holiday together??? lol
If you are still having trouble, the rep we sometimes speak to may answer his phone, but he doesn't do it often. He is Peter Cumbers 07989 603107
and Kate on reception, her email address is: kate.cuesta@chickenandegg.com, but for some reason my PC won't let me send her an email. I tried to send her some photo's of our Amberlinks grown up, but they wouldn't go through.
Turkey and chicken were fantastic…. beautiful flavour and the juices made excellent gravy ….. didn't need any gravy browning and hardly any extra flavouring …….. all our family really enjoyed their Christmas dinner ….. thanks Ann
Hi Christine. thank you for that! It makes the last 2 weeks of standing outside in the cold in a unheated metal converted storage container plucking turkeys worthwhile!
We have been given 15 egg laying chickens but we also want to start a vegetable garden but do not want to make our chicken run smaller are there any veges we can grow that will be safe with and for chickens to run around we were thinking potatoes but have read that potato skins are poisonous to chickens. Please help!!
Hi Nicola, thanks for the message. In a word……….. NO! lol None of your vegetables will be safe, and most of your other plants will be either eaten or scratched out and they'll ruin the lawn too if they can!
But you will learn to live on a bombsite, like the rest of us nutty chicken keepers!!! Try to make their run as large as possible though. How much room do you have for 15 chickens? DEFRA recommend at least 1 sq metre each of run space, but we try to encourage people to give them at least 2 sq metres
Comments on Special Offer!
