Full Circle!
Well, we picked up our second lot of amberlinks lunchtime today, and I've just looked in on them and they are still (at 10pm) running around eating and drinking!)
We ordered 250, but as all the stop gap Babcock's at 8 weeks have either gone to their new homes or are already reserved for mid August, we got an extra 50 Amberlinks (just in case!) Good job we did, as about 28 are already ordered now and they only hatched last night!!
This batch must be from a young parent flock too as they only weighed 39gms when hatched, so it'll be interesting to see what their 1st week weigh in will be like!
At least this 300 have a double sized brooder shed to live in, so they won't be as crowded as the last batch!
Still, we live and learn! I just hope I don't have to use the wardrobe trick again, as we've only got one left!!
It doesn't take them long to find their food and water though does it???? This picture was taken about half an hour after we put them in the shed!
This one seems to think she's on a treadmill!! She got in the feeder and walked round and round!!!!
I love them most when they are tiny like this and you watch them learning to scratch and dust bathe and preen themselves.
I think it's amazing, as they've got no mother hen to show them what to do, it's all inbuilt! Imagine sticking a human baby on the floor with food and water around it. it couldn't survive on its own, but these tiny things….. well look at them!!!!!
