I've done it again haven't I?
I can't believe it is almost Christmas again, and that I haven't posted since September!
Well since my last post, the turkeys have got fat and we are in the process of killing and plucking now. We've done well on our orders, thank you everyone! 2 more people let us down over off heat poults that they'd ordered! But that is good in one way as if they'd both had the turkey poults they'd ordered, we now wouldn't have enough to fulfill our orders for next week!
My lovely mentor 'John' put a bit about our turkeys on his allotment newsletter and we got some orders from there, we've had a few orders from the blog, and some from the allotment forum, but most of the orders are repeats from last year and from recommendations! So all in all we are quite pleased with this year. Any turkeys left over will be jointed and frozen for use throughout the year!
I reached the ripe old age of 60 in October, and I told hubby that I'm fed up with chicken poo and mud, so I'm retiring and he can look after the chickens and turkeys on his own, and I'll go and try to do some of the things I want to do while I'm still young enough to be able to do them!
Visit some more friends for a start! I don't get to go out much with having the chickens to look after, and I don't drive, so getting round is more awkward! But I have my senior citizen's railcard now, and in May I can get my bus pass!
so I'll be well away then!
There is also so much needs doing to the house and garden that I don't get time for and I don't often get the time for my hobbies. Plus, when I got my little private pension, I bought myself a wii fit to help me lose weight! What a busy lady I will be next year!
Well, back to plucking tomorrow! It's jolly cold in our metal storage container where we do the plucking and when I"m cold my joints ache more, so I'll be pleased when Christmas Day is here so I can enjoy my day and forget about plucking turkeys!
I hope you all have a Wonderful Christmas!!!

Wow GrannieAnnie! Just read your whole blog from the beginning! Absolutely enthralled by the amout of work you've put in and how things have flourished and moved forwards. I've just started breeding Araucanas, and so now have much more idea of what to expect. Thanks sooo much

Hi Clucky! Thank you for the compliment! Yes, it's taken a while, but I'm quite pleased with what I've done over the last 3 years. Especially when you consider that I am a 'towny' born and bred, and although I've always wanted to live in the country, I never wanted loads of chickens and turkeys, just a few chickens to give me some nice eggs!
It was my Brian who wanted to be a 'poultry farmer'!!
I'm also quite pleased that I can clean out a chicken house without feeling sick! I've always had a funny tummy, and hate poo of any kind! Even when we had our 2 goats, I refused to clean them out, but chicken poo is far worse than goat poo! lol
Greetngs from another Grannie (Granny) Annie = one daughter lives in Brittany and has 4 Jackie Russells and a rescued Dachsund – 1 year old yesterday. so hence my nickname too! ! Soon to be the owner of chickens – hen run on the way and the house will come later – looks as though I have a lot of reading to do before getting any stock – they will be in the garden – we have just moved to rural Berkshire and am thoroughly enjoying it all. Still a lot of personal boxes to unpack but we're gettng there ……..
Managed to get a smalll allotment plot about a mile away to get me started on growing some stuff – so that needs attention too…. Moved 2 colonies of bees from my old plot in West London and they're doing well so far…. All the Best AF
Hi Ann, nice to hear from you! Apparently there are a lot of us grannieannie's around! lol One in the USA even emailed me to say she was grannieannie and so was her business, and I mustn't use the name! Silly woman, I've been known as Grannieannie for nearly 21 years now! She doesn't have a copyright on a name like that! lol
When I pointed out to her that I rear chickens and I was in the UK, I never heard anymore!
Good luck with the chickens and allotment! You must have a look in at the allotment forum and website I belong to, there are loads of lovely likeminded people on there, and loads who keeps chickens! it's http://www.allotment.org.uk
Talk soon Ann
