Almost at the end of hand plucking!
I have finally agreed that hubby can get his dry plucking machine! Okay its a lot of money, but the Bingham's keep their price well, even 2nd hand ones sell for £1,200 plus! And it will make things a bit easier for me and my arthritic fingers! So we are going to collect it on Tuesday! Delivery is £46 but it won't cost us that in diesel to go to Harlow and fetch it!
I'll let you know how we get on. We finally sold the little wet plucker to a very nice lady, hope she gets on well with it!
We've also now sold all the extra meat chickens that we raised for Christmas in case we sold out of the others. But 145 now gone with just one disgruntled customer, who was unhappy with the size of them because I had mentioned that they should reach 2.5 – 3 kgs. Unfortunately, the smallest one he had was 1.43 kgs and the largest 2.91.
Anyway, I gave him his money back and we retrieved the chickens. I think he was hopingI'd give him his money and say keep the chickens, but I'm not that stupid! I'd rather feed them to the dog!
He didn't even taste one! Everyone else said how lovely they are, and one dear lady has even bought 3 lots now as we sold them for 6 chickens for £40 incl delivery! So where are you going to get semi free range, hand reared, dry killed and dry hand plucked for that price? Doesn't know what he missed there! lol
Several people want to go onto my regular list for chickens every couple of months too, so that's nice. I like people who enjoy eating something I've grown from a chick or egg even as the chrismas meat chickens I incubated the eggs too!
When I was comparing prices just before christmas, there was one site that was selling free range birds up to 2.99kgs for £28 + £20 Delivery! that was for ONE chicken!! Our largest ones were £15.00!
I've just found a website of a place in Devon where if my customer had bought the same from them, without the P&P he would have had to pay £49.98!
So we were very busy for the 2 weeks before Christmas, hand plucking our own birds and doing a few for other people too. And quite busy since plucking all these chickens!
The only thing with that is that it makes my christmas preparations a bit hurried. Luckily its only Brian and me, but I still like making my own puds and cake and mince pies. But after a day plucking, my hands and legs ache so I can't stand in the kitchen for too long!
But with the plucking machine, it'll make things much easier! Maybe Brian won't need me at all to pluck????
No, that's a silly wish. He won't let me get away with that one! lol
Anyway, must go and change my Special Offers page. I will try to update this blog a bit more often! Doesn't always work out how I want though. Sorry…..
