The Wardrobe is now empty!
Yesterday, we finally took the chicks out of the wardrobe brooder and put them into their newly refurbished big henhouse! They made such a noise last night as they were bemused I think at actually being able to stand upright again! I hadn't been able to clean their litter out because they were frightened of the shovel, so I just kept putting more shavings and straw in for them, til it got so they couldn't stand up straight. They should have been out of there 2 weeks ago, but hubby's leg had really been giving him gyp, so he could hardly stand on it! So things with the big house had taken longer than anticipated.
Anyway, they are now in the big house, and once we get the extension built, their other friends will be joining them. there are 150 in the big house now, and the rest are still in the 2 brooder sheds.
So part of today was spent in cleaning out the litter from under the wardrobe. Hubby helped me carry the wardrobe out of his workshop, but then went to finish tipping hardcore into the new base for the extension. I hate poo, but there someone had to do it!!!! There I was with my gas mask on!!!!! Got it all chucked into the compost bins. Part of it was very ripe where they kept tipping over their drinker. It was hanging on a hook, but where they kept chasing each other around, the drinker was spilt on several occasions, so I'm really glad to get them out and into a house where they will have plenty of room to run and fly around.
Can't wait to let them out, but hubby wants to rotavate the run and sow some grass seed and see if we can get something growing for a couple of weeks, but I think it might take too long to grow at this time of year!!!
Tomorrow I'll be mixing concrete for him again, as he wants to get the base finished off. Then we can get the walls up. We got a nice 3ft wide door out of a skip, so that'll be good when it comes to cleaning out. I can take the wheelbarrow right inside. Hubby is going to build them a nice dust bathing area too inside the house for when its too wet to get outside.
So I washed the part of the workshop down with Jeyes Fluid where the wardrobe was, and threw down some sawdust to help dry it quickly. It is now smelling much sweeter!!!
